Hongpex'96 - Second Hong Kong National Stamp Exhibition
Following the success of the first National Exhibition - Hongkong '94 held from 18 - 21 February 1994. The Hong Kong Philatelic Society, China Philatelic Society, Tsim Sha Tsui Philatelic Club and the Police Philatelic Club jointly organized the second national exhibition, Hongpex '96. The Exhibition was held from 23 - 26 February in the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, Wanchai. Seventy postal Administrations and dealers participated in this event and the Hong Kong Post Office produced a special souvenir stamp pack for this occasion. The Postmaster General, Mr. Robert Footman, the President of FIAP, Mr. Tay Peng Hian RDP, President of the Organizing Committee Mr. William Kwan and the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Cheung Kam Che opened the Exhibition by performing the well attended ribbon cutting ceremony.
There were one hundred frames of exhibit on display, many of which have never been shown before. The standard was high for a national exhibition. Mr. Tay Peng Hian RDP, Mr. David Chiong (Philippines), Mr. A.R. Singhee (India), Mr. W.H. Lu (Singapore) and Mr. Malcolm Hammersley (HK) judged the exhibits.

The Palmares was held on the top floor of the Exhibition Centre. Two exhibits, the "Old Currency Definitives of the People's Republic of China" of Kei Kok Ying and the "A study of the postal markings used in the Treaty Ports 1850 - 1930" of Dr. Andrew Cheung. Two Large Vermeils, six Vermeils, six Silvers, three Silver-Bronzes, two Bronzes were awarded. The Grand Prize for the best exhibit - The D'Alamada trophy went to Kei Kok Ying for his traditional exhibit.

Capex'96 - World Stamp Exhibition, Canada
This exhibition was held from 8 - 16 June in Toronto's Metro Convention Centre. There were 320 exhibits from 60 countries with over 4,600 frames of top class philatelic material. Some specials on exhibit were outstanding examples of British North America from the Queen's collection; gems of the Canadian philately with 256 pages of choice classics to modern errors. Other Court of Honour exhibits included the 1 May 1840 Penny Black FDC 9First day of Sale), and the most valuable single stamp in the world, the Swedish 3 skillings yellow colour error. Our President William Kwan scored a Large Vermeil for his "Hong Kong 16c Yellow and its derivatives". Messrs Nick Halewood and Malcolm Hammersley won a Vermeil and a Large Silver for "Hong Kong Treaty Ports Security markings" and "1953 QEII definitives" respectively.

Istanbul World Stamp Exhibition, Turkey
The second FIP World Exhibition was held from 27 September to 6 October in the city of Istanbul. Mr. Malcolm Hammersley received a Silver for his "Security markings of Hong Kong and the Treaty Ports", Wilson Wong FRPSL won a Vermeil for his Bahawalpur traditional exhibit and Chu Wing-Yeu got a Large Silver for his China National Currency Issues exhibit.

China'96 - 9th FIAP International Stamp Exhibition, Beijing
The 9th FIAP was held from 18 - 24 May in the capital city of China - Beijing. The exhibition was so popular that riots nearly broke out on the first day as unexpected large crowds rushed to the dealers hall in the China International Exhibition Centre. The 25,000 entry tickets were rationed and ticket touts did good business outside the venue. The price for a first day ticket went up to ten times to RMB100 each!
Our President was awarded a Gold medal for his exhibit "A study of stamps and postal history of East China 1942 - 1949", Committee member Dr. Andrew Cheung received a Large Vermeil and a handsome wooden vase as a special prize for his study of Treaty Ports postal markings, Hon. Secretary, Malcolm Hammersley received a Large Silver for his Security markings exhibit and Stephen Chan a Silver for his "Parrots". In addition, Kei Kok Ying's "Old Currency Issues of PRC" was awarded a Large Vermeil

Taipei'96 - 10th FIAP International Stamp Exhibition
The 10th FIAP Exhibition was held from 21st to 27th October at the Taipei World Trade Centre. This exhibit celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Chinese Postal Service. 1,629 frames of exhibits from 20 Asian countries were on view at the spacious hall. Four exhibitors represented Hong Kong and our Hon. Secretary Malcolm Hammersley was one of the FIAP apprentices: -
