Hong Kong Stampex 2007 was held on the 7th Floor, High Block of the City Hall from 23 to 25 February, the first weekend after Chinese New Year.
A brief opening ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on the 7th Floor. Our President Mr. William Kwan, Hon. Secretary/Jury President Malcolm Hammersley and Senior Manager of Hongkong Post Stamps Ms. Vivian Lee were at the ribbon cutting ceremony witnessed by a large crowd of eager collectors and representatives of other philatelic clubs in Hong Kong.
Attendance was very good on the first day and most stamp dealers recorded satisfactory sales. The limited edition Stampex 2007 minipane was again sold out within minutes of doors opening. A minipane souvenir pack in aid of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation was also available at our show, most were quickly snapped up by collectors and dealers alike. Thirty-three Lucky number minipanes were all sold at the public auction on Saturday 24th; No. 888 was bought by our President for HK$888 and the President of Tsim Sha Tsui Mr. Chu Wing Yeu bought No. 999 for HK$350. All proceeds will be donated to the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.
Judging was completed by the end of the first day and the results posted on the morning of Saturday. The judging was tough because of the high standard of the exhibits and as a result several Vermeil and Large Vermeil medals were awarded. There was only a single Gold medal, which was awarded to Mr. Juai Wai-Chungs Postal History of Manchukuo and the exhibitor also received a special prize and the DAlmada Cup.
The Palmares was held on the last day of the show at the Chiu Chow Garden Restaurant, basement of Jardine House. Most of the exhibitors attended the award giving ceremony which was deliberately kept brief since our talented member Dennis Chow (also an exhibitor) needed the time to perform with his harmonica a lyrical passage from the famous Chinese repertoire The Butterfly Lovers before dinner. Denniss performance was flawless and result in loud applauds and cries of encore!Palmares - 25 February 2007
