Society News

We are honoured to have Professor Kevin MacKeown as speaker of this season’s finale. He explained to us the difficulties of collecting modern issues of North Korea and the differences between the ‘Internal’ issues and ‘Philatelic’ issues; the former are for local usage printed on relatively inferior quality paper and not generally available to the outside world. Hence these stamps are mostly uncatalogued. What collectors normally buy from the North Korean PO outlets are the ‘Philatelic issues’, same design but printed on glossy and better quality paper. He went on to show covers franked with both ‘Internal’ and ‘External’ issues and pointed out the obvious difference in the quality of postmarks on the two issues – truly “One country Two systems!”

Please note that there will not be a meeting this month. The Committee is on summer vacation.
